We created a digital stratigraphic excavation consisting of different layers of soil where artifacts from the Egyptian Museum are hidden. Once the object is discovered the user is able to unearth historical information about the time period of each relic. The virtual experience begins right above an excavation site at the Egyptian Museum. As you descend deep into the ground, scrolling the page vertically, an animated story reveals what stratigraphy is and how it works. At the same time, each layer can be virtually excavated with an interactive button: the user's action clears the layer of soil, revealing the discovery and the information it contains. The excavation is complete once the deepest layer is dug up (corresponding to the most ancient historical period of Egyptian civilization). The user then finds an AR lens that allows him or her to share the photo or video of one of his or her findings on Instagram where it can be viewed in an imaginary layer of soil. The whole experience is accompanied by original music and sound effects that enhance every moment of navigation.
